The Journey to the Black Hills Begins. Three groups. One destination. A thousand memories in the making.
This year’s DHOG Sturgis adventure kicked off with riders heading out in three waves. One group left earlier in the week to take their time and soak in the scenery. Another truck rolled out Saturday, hauling gear and prepping the way. The largest group departed Friday—13 motorcycles, one car, and 16 excited riders and passengers with the open road ahead and Sturgis in their sights.
Their first day’s destination: Amarillo, Texas.
On the way, they met up with the Tripp’s Harley-Davidson HOG group and enjoyed a group ride to The Lumberyard in Canyon for a well-earned dinner. Before settling in for the night, the group made a classic biker pilgrimage to Cadillac Ranch, where memories were made under the wide Texas sky.
Saturday was a big riding day. The group made its way to Colorado Springs, with an iconic stops along the way. First up was a visit to Bishop’s Castle—a quirky, hand-built stone fortress in Colorado that left everyone wide-eyed. They met up with Pikes Peak H.O.G. group for dinner at Dublin House.
They road to Gillette via Cheyenne where the full parking lots prevented them from enjoying Frontier Days. Arriving in Gillette, the group checked into a hotel complete with its own water park—perfect for some rest and recovery. After a long day of riding, pizza and pool time hit the spot.
Monday brought the crew into the Sturgis area, where they drove to Devil's tower and then the three DHOG groups reunited in Spearfish. The afternoon ride through Spearfish Canyon was nothing short of breathtaking. They followed it up with a visit to Deadwood, where they walked the historic downtown and took a side trip to Mount Moriah Cemetery—final resting place of legends like Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.
From there, everyone split off to their own hotels, houses, or RV parks to rest up for the next big day.
Tuesday was all about the landmarks. The group met up in Sturgis and rode to Mount Rushmore, where they took in the iconic granite faces. The ride continued along the scenic and curvy Iron Mountain Road, offering tight turns, pigtail bridges, and unforgettable views. The day wrapped up with a drive through Custer State Park, where the group got an up-close view of a herd of bison—just another reminder that the Black Hills are full of wild surprises.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where we dig into the heart of the rally, incredible rides, and the unforgettable moments that make Sturgis an experience like no other.
